The North Star Journal is a Black-owned digital newspaper rooted in Utica, New York. We are not a PR agency. We don’t answer to gatekeepers. And we do not sanitize truth to stay in good graces.
We launched because too many stories about our communities are told from the outside in — filtered, framed, or erased entirely. This platform was built to change that.
What We Stand For
- Community Voice First
Our work centers the people directly affected — not institutions, not donors, and not politicians. - Truth Without Apology
We publish what’s real. Even when it’s inconvenient. Even when it costs us access. - Historical Continuity
We trace our roots to resistance papers of the past — publications that spoke when others refused to.
We are not here to beg. We are here to broadcast.
Our Focus
We cover:
- Local Black news and community issues
- Systemic harm, policy failures, and accountability
- Cultural narratives and resistance writing
We don’t do fluff. We don’t do respectability politics. And we don’t ask for permission to speak.
