The North Star Journal is not neutral. We are accountable.
We exist to document, disrupt, and defend truth — particularly where it has been erased or manipulated. This policy outlines how we make editorial decisions, handle sources, and protect the integrity of our platform.
Editorial Independence
Our reporting is not influenced by advertisers, funders, city officials, or nonprofit alliances. We do not accept prewritten content, PR spin, or pre-approved language. If we publish it, we stand behind it.
Source Use & Protection
We verify information before publication using public records, direct testimony, and source corroboration.
When a source’s safety or livelihood is at risk, we will protect their identity to the fullest extent possible. Anonymity is granted only when verified information supports the story.
Corrections & Accountability
If we get something wrong, we will correct it clearly and transparently. We do not retroactively edit without acknowledging the change.
What We Don’t Do
- We don’t quote police as neutral sources.
- We don’t platform racism, class warfare, or performative politics.
- We don’t “both sides” survival.
This journal was built for clarity — not approval.
If that makes us unpopular, we’re okay with that.
We didn’t come here to please. We came here to publish.
